a walk in the park

today we woke up to some beautiful {but cold} sunshine.
i sent a text to my friend, heidi, about going to the park at some point. so, after naptime we headed to their house, ate some lunch & played a bit before heading out to the park.

i bet you can tell what picture i did NOT take.
maggie seriously loves heidi, her husband justin & their sweet little ones, DP and E; but the girl has a serious soft spot in her heart for DP. there is not another soul her makes her laugh the way that he does. he is such a good protector of her and i am thankful she has such a special little boy to be her friend. they played on the rock walls, and swings together, and i took maggie up and down the slide 25 times {at least}. she loves the park. we spent the last part of our time taking a nice long walk. and maggie walked pretty much the entire way. she had the most fun.
i just love the picture that heidi took of them walking together. i think it needs to be framed and put in maggies room.

now, i am just sitting drinking some tea while the little lady takes a nap all the while planning on what i am going to wear on my date tonight. today is a great friday.

becoming planted

anyone who knows me knows i dont like change.
i have never been that girl that adjusted well to anything becoming different in my life. ever.
i like to stay in the same place, know the same people, go to the same stores, drive the same roads every time,use the same toothpaste {get the picture?} BUT since being married to my wonderful husband, i have had to learn to adjust.

since getting married in march of 2009, we have lived in 3 different apartments. we have packed up all our things & moved 3 times. prior to all this moving, i lived in the same house for 15 years. i have always loved making a place feel like home & staying planted.

so why is there a stirring in my heart to go?

we desire to go & do what the LORD asks of us, even if he is calling us to leave. we desire to go & share his love to those who need it. but i have always desired to do it in a place where i have felt rooted.
it is so unlike me to feel like i want to pack everything & go.
i am not sure if this stirring to get up & leave is a calling from the LORD to move away, or if it is a desire to have a home rather than be in between & not ever sure how long you are going to stay.

as much as i desire to be where the LORD would have us i also desire to get planted. i read this post yesterday & it really got me thinking about how much i desire to plant & have roots.
i long to have friendships that are so deep, & so real.
i want to be able to sit 18 years from now with sweet friends & remember the day that our littles were born. to live in deep real community with those around us. to be within walking distance of best friends. i desire for maggie to have her best friends living so close. {maybe next door..} i want to make our home wherever the LORD would have it to be, but if i could pick, i want to make our home here. i want to find a place to plant. i want to have a home.

these are some of the deepest desires of my heart.

but, i will be patient.
i will choose to be satisfied.
because where i am, where we are, its just where the LORD has put us.
i know that those friendships will come, the house will show up - or it wont & the LORD will equip me for a lifetime of uncertainty. he will direct my paths to be rooted & planted in him. because there is no other place in the whole world that i could plant our family in that would be richer than being planted in him.

6.02.2011

i only had 10 mins...

this week is busy, busy, busy.
i am co-planning a baby shower for this lovely lady this weekend.
which means that i have so many craft projects to work on,
so many things to bake. and gifts to get together.
on saturday we are also going to a wedding.
& i am super excited about it.
i love weddings. a lot.
which also means that i have to figure out 2 fancy outfits.
{baby shower & wedding.}
buy some more sweet gifts.
& finalize babysitting plans.

oye.
just looking at all that makes me tired.
& i started the 30 day shred last night with my sweet husband.
{i adore how supportive he is.}
so my body is sore in all kinds of places.
so this mama is tired. really tired.

i am thankful for the fact that i keep getting constant strength from the LORD.
that i know that he will carry me even when i am so weary.
i love that.

oh. & i have a veggie pizza in the oven right now.
that might be burning.
opps.

at least we are getting frozen yougurt tonight.
& my daughter loves to watch disney movies.
which is so delightful.
i love hearing peter pan while i do dishes.

alright, enough of my ramblings.
i'll be back tomorrow with something more, uh, meaningful.
{or at least i'll try}

3.09.2011

twenty seven.

day twenty seven
Day 27.  Write a blog to encourage someone and build their confidence!

i have a really lovely friend.
her name is heidi.
she is talented and sweet and a really great hostess.
she moved her with her family a little over a year ago. when she moved here, she was only planning on staying a few months. they moved because of her husbands job, and were anticipating moving home. what they were not anticipating was the LORD moving through them, and keeping them here in seattle. heidi has been an amazing source of encouragment to me. her family has been some of our dearest and sweetest friends. she is an amazing listener, a great wisdom giver, she laughs and cries with me, she understands me (which is hard to do sometimes) and lovingly pokes fun at me. she helps me see what trusting the in LORD and living in faith looks like in a very real way. during the last year she has constantly just given Jesus her life and allowed him to move and shape her into this amazingly beautiful woman. so here is a little note to my sweet friend,
heidi-
thank you for:
*encouraging me
*loving me
*laughing with (and at)me
*teaching me
*caring for me
*loving my daughter
*loving my husband
*staying at the hospital like 85% of the time i was in labor and being there until 2 in the morning (or later)
*helping me
*pointing me towards Jesus
*allowing me to explain how i really feel
*being an amazing friend
*being a great example of a wife and mama
i love you lady. i am so glad you are here, and so glad that we are friends. i pray this note leaves you encouraged.

my husband...

today was a 'snow day'. we got a few inches of snow last night, and my sweet husband had today off anyways, so we spent it bundled indoors, getting some housework done, playing with baby bird, making dinner for some sweet friends and enjoying time as family.

lady baby is still sick, and we are all hoping that this cold leaves her as quickly as it came. sucking out a baby nose 3 times a day is not my (or hers for that matter) favorite thing to do.
i am hoping to post a really yummy recipe tomorrow, (the one i talked about here) and also an update on all the fun crafty things i have been making and dreaming of making lately.

day twenty one
Day 21.  Write a letter to your husband to encourage him (or if you are single- your future husband.)
my dear sweet husband::
who would have thought that just 2 and a half years after meeting we would be sitting in an apartment, together, laughing about how sweet our baby girl is?! i am so much more in love with you than i was before. watching you become a daddy is probably the most beautiful thing i have seen. you were made to be a daddy and i love seeing you grow each day. the way that you care about me is so selfless and so loving. i appreciate how hard you are working for our little family. i am so thankful that you wake up each morning after not sleeping enough and go to work. it truly helps me see that when i have to go back, i will be able to work on little sleep. thank you for always leading me to the LORD, and praying for us daily.i love watching you serve the LORD at church and in community. your willingness to do what he has called us to do is something i cherish about you. i am so thankful that in a few short weeks we get to celebrate the 2 years of marriage Jesus has blessed us with. i love you nicky. a latte. :)

coffee break.

last night my sweet mama took our baby so we could enjoy a night off. (oh how i needed that!) we spent the evening getting fancy and celebrating the five year marriage of our friends, josh and lexi. they threw a really fun wine party and there was yummy wine, great people and wonderful food. it was so nice to have adult conversation that didnt have anything to do with diapers, crying, sleepless nights, or baby noises. i really needed that. now this morning my husband is at his weekly guy accountability/fellowship group with some close friends and i am enjoying some time at starbucks, alone, without anything to do. this is such a huge gift! the sun is shining, i am eating chocolate covered madeleines, and drinking a larger americano than normal. it feels like i am on vacation, and i love it.
i think it is time to try and get back on track with project thirtyone. lets see how well i do this time!

day fifteen
Day 15.  Write to encourage a friend.  Inspire her beauty.
dearest kara::
has it really only been almost 2 years that we have been friends?! it feels like so much longer. you are quite possibly the best friend that i have ever had. you inspire me to be a better wife, a better mama, a better friend, and a better daughter of our king. your beauty shines through everything that you do. the way that you have loved me and my family, is such a blessing, and such an encouragement for me to do the same for others. you have no idea how much you mean to me, to nick, and to miss maggie. i have loved watching you grow in mamahood, i have loved watching you grow as a wife, and i have loved watching you grow as a friend. your sweetness and love for others is evident in everything that you do. your girls are so blessed to have you as their mama, to teach them what real beauty is, to lead them lovingly to the LORD, to show them how to be hospitable and train them to be wonderful wives. your husband is blessed to have you as his wife, to be his best friend, to laugh with (and sometimes at) him, to be in covenant with him for better and for worse. i love you sweet friend, and i hope your feel encouraged because you are such a constant source of encouragement for me. i thank the LORD for bringing us into each others lives, you are so beautiful!

day sixteen
Day 16.  Write a letter to your daughter, or a young girl in your life.  Tell her what beauty means.
my dear sweet margaret pearl::
oh where to start. you are amazing. you always have been. from the moment that i knew you were growing in my belly i knew you were beautiful. i knew that it didnt matter if you had one arm, or a deformed heart, or anything else that was not developed that you would still be beauty in my eyes. every morning when you wake up i call you my 'sweet pea beauty'. i constantly tell you how lovely and beautiful you are. but miss maggie, beauty is not how lovely your eyes are (but yours are incredible) it is not how tiny your pants are, it is not how shiny your hair is or how white your teeth are. beauty comes from within. beauty comes from the LORD. real beauty is not what is on the outside, it is what is deep inside the heart of a woman. you will always have beauty in your heart, the LORD designed us this way, but my sweet daughter, my desire is for you to cultivate that beauty and grow it into something so lovely that shines for our father in heaven. he formed you in my tummy, he knew what you would look like, he knew what you would act like, he knew what you would love and what you would dislike. he sees you as his beauty. even when the world will get you down (and it will get you down) i desire for you to know that your beauty doesnt come from them. remember always that like i said, true beauty is deep in the heart of a woman and not just on the outside. i will always think you are beautiful, your daddy will always think you are beautiful, and your father in heaven will think you are beautiful for eternity. we love you, sweat pea beauty. i can not wait to see who you turn in to being, and i can not wait to celebrate your beauty for the rest of our lives. you are a gem.
love you,
xoxo::
mama.

day seventeen
 Day 17.  Write about 3 things that make you happy.
this one is going to be short, since the other 2 are super long.
one:: disneyland. i know i sound like five year old girl, but disneyland is my favorite place, and it makes me so happy. even just thinking about it, and remembering the sounds, the smell, and the sights. i love it.
two:: being in love. with anything. i love to love things, and loving things makes me happy.
three::sunshine and bare feet. i love shoes. but more than shoes, i love bare feet. nothing beats walking through warm grass with no shoes on. i love it.
i love onemillion other things. which you will be able to read about on this blog, because i tend to write a lot about what i love.

a rose and some beauty tips.

i was really distracted yesterday by my sweet and adorable family.  so i didnt have time to blog, and i am totally ok with that because there is nothing better than snuggling with my sweet husband and lovely daughter. i am going to squeeze two posts into one today...

day seven
Write a blog to encourage another beautiful woman.
meet emily rose.
most of the time i call her emmy.
emmy has a heart that radiates beauty.
her friendship is so valuable to me. i met em when she was in the eighth grade and i was a junior. i did not expect to be friends with her at all. the LORD had other plans. over the past 7 years we have walked through some pretty heavy life stuff together. emmy has shown beauty and grace through something so hard i could not imagine. she has leaned on the LORD and trusted him in difficult times. i have seen her love him with all her heart and soul and mind. it has been so encouraging to watch her grow up from a really amazing girl, to a really incredible, beautiful woman. i dont get to see her that often because she is in portland at bible college, but i think about her everyday and love when she comes home and i get to see her. we dont talk that often these days, but she is always in my thoughts and prayers. i pray that my sweet daughter will look up to her aunt em and i can not wait to watch their relationship grow. i love you emmy, and i love how you have taught me so much about life, and love, and the LORD. you are so beautiful, and i want to cry when i think of how deeply you love Jesus. i am so blessed to call you one of my dearest friends.
day eight
 Have a beauty secret (e.g. hair tip, make up tip)?  Share, please!
i couldnt decide on one beauty tip, so i am posting ten of my favorite beauty things.

beauty tips

these are some of my favorite beauty products. i use *most* of these items everyday. i love the mint julep mask because it makes my skin so refreshed and feel so clean. if i feel a breakout coming i will use it and instantly clears things up. i use babywipes as makeup remover. it is quick and easy (and now i always have them on hand!) the clarisonic skincare system is hands down the best thing i have ever put on my face. mine is currently broken, and getting a new battery for it is on my "to do" list. bad gal lash is my favorite mascara. all it takes is one coat and you have fuller lashes. burts bees is the best chapstick. we have like 6 tubes floating around my house. lorac illumining powder is awesome. my mama bought it for me and i used it everyday. it was the only make up i needed. tinted moisturizers keep my skin feeling natural but still covered, and i always use one with spf. (because sunscreen is important but i always forget!) the rosemary mint shampoo and conditioner is so cheap, but it is honestly the best shampoo. my hair feels clean for days. ( thats another secret... i only wash my hair about 2 times a week.) bobby pins are a girls best friend. i couldnt do anything with my hair if i didnt have them. i recently discovered burts bees toothpaste, and it is my favorite. it keeps your breath smelling fresh and doesnt taste gross like most toothpastes do. enjoy!

1.02.2011

2010

this past year was extremely full; it was probably the hardest, best, and busiest year i have ever had.  i love to look back and see the goodness of the LORD, to see where he has brought us from, to see the trials that we walked through, and the blessings and gifts that he has given us. its so nice to be able to look back and see his hand. here is my quick recap.

January:: we were looking forward to celebrating our 1 wedding anniversary, praying about moving into a better place to hopefully start adding to our family.

February:: the shortest month, but it was so full! we moved into a beautiful apartment, (and our 3rd move in a year) we got to see john piper speak at mars hill in ballard, i decided to step down from my supervisor postion at starbucks and transfered as a barista to a store accross the street from our new apartment, and on the last day of the month, we found out that i was pregnant!

March::  we celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary with a trip to portland and cannon beach. we stayed at the coolest hotel in downtown portland and went to the saturday market, powells bookstore, and the rouge brewery. after that we went to cannon beach and explored the tide pools, seaside, and hug point. it was really fun, despite all my morning sickness!

April:: i started working across the street, and learned that being less stressed at work meant that i could spend more quality time with my husband.. and my morning sickness was virtually gone.  (thank you Jesus!)

May::  this month i went to the doctor and they couldnt find the heartbeat for our sweet angel baby. the LORD was so gracious and allowed me to feel an overwhelming sense of peace. later that day they did an ultrasound and i not only got to hear our little babes heartbeat, i got to see her too. (such a sweet blessing!) we also spent a weekend camping with my family and some of their church family. it was the most blustery camping trip i have ever been on. in the middle of the night our tent all but collapsed on us. it was so fun!

June:: this month we got to find out if our sweet little baby that we had been dreaming and praying about would wear pink or blue. on june 21 we learned that a modest lady baby was growing inside of me. we were overjoyed that Jesus had given us the child that we prayed for. we also found out that miss margaret pearl had a spot on her heart. and after further investigation (and lots of prayer that the will of the LORD be done) the doctors concluded that she was 99%  healthy and that it was probably nothing more than a calcium deposit.  we also learned alot about being generous as our church began fundraising for a new building in downtown bellevue.

July:: we spent the 4th of July in Moses lake with my family. it was a fun weekend of laying by a pool, soaking up some sun, and enjoying family. we also spent alot of quality time with our ever growing community group, and our church family. who is basically the same to us as our regular family.

August::  was dress rehearsal month. while heading out to work one day, i somehow managed to fall flat on my baby bump. that fall landed us in the labor and delivery room for a night, and a little scare that our tiny girl could be here. we felt so loved and surrounded by family and the LORD that we were not scared, but at peace with whatever happened.

September:: was baby shower month! we celebrated with a cocktail party baby shower, a southern themed baby shower, and a shower filled with pearls. it is so obvious that maggie has so many people who love her and we were greatly blessed by them all! ( the thank you cards are coming... i promise!)

October:: i worked my last shift at starbucks (until this march), we celebrated the birth of miss siena joy, our sweet friends daughter... so fun walking through our entire pregnancy with them! dressed up for halloween (even though i really didnt want to at 38 weeks pregnant.) and went trick or treating with some really dear friends. (it was my first time trick or treating...)

November:: i struggled as i was 7 days overdue with our little lady, but because God is so good, we celebrated the birth of Margaret Pearl on the 14. nick got to stay home with us for 2 weeks (HUGE blessing!) and we celebrated thanksgiving with both sets of our family.... and i even got to go out shopping on black friday with my mama, while my sweet husband watched our little girl. it was awesome!

December::  nick turned 27, i turned 23 and maggie turned 1 month old pretty much in the same week. we had lots of family celebrations for birthdays and Christmas. it was a great month filled with family and friends, and many many blessings from the LORD.

i love that Jesus has been so good to us. this past year was not the best. it was not my favorite. it had some really hard times, and some really good times. what i love the most was that in 2010 the LORD showered us with his blessings. he kept our baby alive, and us alive and healthy too. he gave to us everything that we needed and at times everything that we wanted as well. sometimes you need to have a hard, stressful, emotional year to really understand the grace and love of the Father. 2010 was that year for us. i am praying for 2011 to be a year full of firsts, a year full of grace, and a year full of growing closer to Jesus, my husband, our daughter and our amazing friends and family.

happiest new year, everyone!
